Verizon's Trade-In Program Now Accepting Tablets In The Name Of The Environment

In a press release issued today, Verizon Wireless has announced that they are extending their popular phone trade-in program to tablets. Users will now be able to “trade in” their older, unused tablet devices to Verizon and in exchange receive a Verizon gift card. The company says that this “recycling” program is in honor of Earth Day.

To see what your device is worth in Verizon’s Trade-in program, head over to their website, located at trade-in.vzw.com, where you fill out an appraisal form and it tells you how much it should be worth, roughly. Not happy with that Motorola Xoom that you paid $800 for? Don’t worry, Verizon will give you $105 for the device.

That unexpectedly low price actually seems to be par for the course. Despite the press release mentioning that you could get up to $300 for a tablet, don’t expect to get a trade-in value of more than $100 for anything, including Apple products.

While they do offer the aforementioned Verizon gift card, you’ll also be offered the option of donating your used Verizon gadget to their HopeLine charity, which donates refurbished phones to victims of domestic violence. So, if Verizon is only offering $19 for your first-gen Motorola Droid, why not donate it to charity instead?

And if you feel like buying a HTC Thunderbolt but are worried that if you don’t like it you’ll get just $77 on Verizon’s trade-in program, don’t worry! We’ve got a HTC Thunderbolt in for review here and we’ll have a review in this week.
